GST registration
What to keep ready to register your business for GST. The GST portal does not charge a registration fee. If someone asks you to pay to “process” it, that is an agent’s fee, not the government’s.
What to keep ready
- PAN of the business or the owner
- Proof of how the business is set up: partnership deed or incorporation certificate (not needed for a sole proprietor)
- Owner or partner details: PAN, Aadhaar, address and photo. Companies also need the DIN.
- Proof for the authorised signatory: appointment letter or board resolution, and a photo
- Proof of the business place: ownership document, a rent agreement with the owner’s consent, or a utility bill
- Bank details: a cancelled cheque or the first page of a statement. You can add these later.
- A mobile number linked to Aadhaar and a working email for the OTPs
Some states ask for extra items, such as an electricity consumer number.
What it costs
- No registration fee on the GST portal.
