Passport: new, renewal, lost or damaged
What to keep ready for a first passport or a renewal, and the fee for each type. Check the fee calculator on the official site before you pay.
What to keep ready
- Address proof: Aadhaar, an electricity, water or gas bill, a postpaid or landline bill, rent agreement, voter ID, bank passbook, or a parent’s or spouse’s passport copy
- Date-of-birth proof: birth certificate, school leaving or Class 10 certificate, PAN, driving licence, voter ID or insurance policy bond
- Originals plus one self-attested photocopy. Your photo is taken at the Passport Seva Kendra.
Renewal: your old passport, plus a self-attested copy of its first two and last two pages and any observation or extension page. Address proof only if your address changed. A name change needs extra proof, such as a marriage certificate or gazette notification. A child under 18 also needs a parent’s passport copy and the parents’ declaration.
What it costs
- Normal application, official fee table from 1 July 2026: ₹2,500 for 36 pages and 10 years, ₹3,500 for 60 pages, ₹1,750 for a child under 18.
- Tatkaal adds ₹2,500.
- Lost, stolen or damaged passport: ₹4,250 to ₹6,000.
- Children aged 8 and under, and people over 60, get a 10% rebate on a fresh application.
